For Your Traveling Pleasure!
For this DS106 Assignment Bank I chose a design project for which I had to think about places nearby that I’ve been missing out on visiting and make a collage of pictures of those destinations. These are places that would be interesting and inspiring to me as a future goal. I thought it would fun to tweak this assignment and make a flyer for a travel company on places people could visit if the physics worked in their favor. The four places I chose are actual modes of travel that can be theoretically accessed in the future according to many scientists.
Visit Mars: Elon Musk plans to get 1 million people to mars through his Interplanetary Transport System.
Teleportation through Quantum Entanglement is a process by which quantum information (e.g. the exact state of an atom or photon) can be transmitted (exactly, in principle) from one location to another, with the help of classical communication and previously shared quantum entanglement between the sending and receiving location. Brian Green in Fabric of the Cosmos says this might be possible in the future.
Time Travel via Wormholes: Want to visit the past and see Abraham Lincoln in action? Or the 1946 World Series? A wormhole or “Einstein-Rosen Bridge” is a hypothetical topological feature that would fundamentally be a shortcut connecting two separate points in spacetime.
The elevator into space – The Japanese engineering and construction firm Obayashi announced this year that they have the ability and intention to set in motion a 36,000km elevator into space, to be completed within forty years.
